Heirlooms and Other Junk
No news on "The Land" yet, but it's only been 9 days since I actually mailed the letter, so I don't really expect anything yet.
However, my brother has been sending me all these "treasures" that were my mom and dad's. I got the antique branding Iron that's about 200 years old, from an uncle i'd never heard of before about 15 years ago. And my maternal grandfather's shoe last. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a big piece of cast iron (that my mom always called a door stop) with two pieces that are in the shape of the sole of a shoe. The shoemaker would place one of these pieces inside the shoe, and have a firm surface on which to work. This piece is antique too. There was also a block of marble that apparently my paternal grandfather carved into a soap dish and carved my grandmother's name on. There were also some antique dishes: salad plates and cups and saucers that never belonged to anyone in my family. Apparently my brother gave them to my sister at some point and since she's gone insane, she's sending back everything he ever gave her apparently.
I'm gonna hafta figure out how to sell stuff on ebay I guess, because not only do I have no room for stuff that wasn't even my parents', I don't want stuff that was my sister's, not to mention all the old hymnals and stuff that were my mom's that I obviously have no use for. Who knows? Maybe I'll get enough money outta this stuff for a down payment on a house!
